What kind of bike is it?

E-bikes we cover

Electric bicycles (E-bikes) that are electric “pedal-assist” or “pedelec” with a maximum power output of 300 watts and a maximum assisted speed of 45 km/hour for on-road models and 32 km/hour for off-road models. The motor may operate to a maximum speed of 6 km/hour without human pedalling.

How we value your bike

We regard the bicycle value to be the original recommended retail price for the year and model of your bicycle and any upgraded components such as wheels, groupsets, seat posts, etc. If you are insuring a second-hand bicycle or upgraded components or your bicycle or components were purchased as new by you but not insured within a 30 days of the purchase date, we regard the bicycle value to be the recommended retail price of the bicycle or components when new reduced by 10% per full year up to the date of policy inception. If you underinsure your bicycle we may reduce your claim payment.

Accessories and wheelsets

Your helmet, lights, GPS, shoes, panniers and spare wheelsets, covered with your bike.

Up to $10,000.

Racing and event entry

Covers you while competing in timed or racing events, plus up to $500 event entry reimbursement for any cycling event during the period of insurance that you are unable to compete in as a result of the insured loss event.

Worldwide

Takes your bike and gear abroad with you for up to 90 days.

A one-off $120 fee is added to your first payment.

What counts as sponsored?

Sponsored bicycle means a bicycle where:

  • a party other than you has contributed (either directly or by way of a discount) towards more than 50% of the recommended retail price of the bicycle, or
  • the bicycle has been provided to you under a loan or deferred payment arrangement.

Sponsored cyclist means a cyclist who:

  • receives direct or indirect financial support or assistance (excluding clothing and apparel) in excess of $3,000 (measured over any consecutive 12-month period) from another party (excluding a family member) in order to participate, train or otherwise engage in cycling or attend cycling events or compete in cycling races, or
  • has entered into and is subject to a cycling sponsorship agreement (written or verbal) with a third party, regardless of whether financial transactions have actually arisen under the agreement, or
  • is using a sponsored bicycle at the time of a loss event.
What isn't covered?

Not eligible for cover:

  • Commercial use bicycles for purposes that include courier, food delivery, transport, or bicycle rental/charter schemes (even if the bicycle is used part time for commercial use)
  • A person that rides bikes as their primary source of income and is as such classified as a professional cyclist.
